Inaugual
Oklahoma Flute Festival painting is designed and painted by
Mickel Yantz of LogJaM Arts. The poster contains several
references influenced by Southeastern Mississippian designs, such as
the woodpecker motif found on shell gorgets over 1000 years old, and
pottery pattern paddle designs (carved wooden paddles with various
designs used as a stamp on a clay pots) over 1900 years old, used by
tribes of
the Southeastern U.S. The flutes are incorporated in the knot
motif. Used

This wonderful
logo depicts the woodpecker legend, which varies across the
country. The linking theme is a woodpecker pecking holes in a
tree branch and when the wind blew across the holes a subtle sound was
created. According to this legend the sound created inspired a
flute. This images
shows the woodpecker pecking holes in a tree branch working
it's way up the branch, drawn by Kappy Frederickson, to create
the similar holes found on a Native American Flute. This image is
wrapped in an outline of the state of Oklahoma, the location of the
Oklahoma Flute Fest.
